Filing a utility model application

A utility model protects a product as well as the technical principle on which it is based.
Utility models can only be established nationally. Not all countries offer utility model protection. In some cases, a utility model can be converted into a patent.

In Denmark it is also possible to apply for a utility model, possibly as an alternative to a full patent. The requirements to the inventive step of a utility model are not as strict as with a patent. Furthermore there is no examination.

The utility model is only valid for a 10-year period and cannot be renewed.
